ISTANBUL FASHION WEEKis an enormous fashion event which consists of fairs hosting fashion shows, designers and brands. The event is going to take place on 3/6 February 2010 under the auspices of ITKIB and in cooperation with Fashion Designers Association and Istanbul Fashion Academy. Istanbul Fashion Days, which will be realized with the cooperation of ITKIB and Fashion Designers Association (MTD) for the first time in Turkey, has been first presented to Zafer Caglayan, the State Minister responsible for Foreign Trade, in a private meeting.
The content details for Istanbul Fashion Week(IFD) which will be uniting Turkish fashion designers and apparel brands under one roof has been discussed in the meetings, and apart from State Minister Caglayan, the leading representatives of the Turkish textile and fashion sector also attended the gathering.
State Minister Caglayan noted that “Times of crisis are the best for publicity, and in accordance with this, Turkey will gain an important advantage with IFD on behalf of her fashion and textile sector in the current economic situation.” He added that he is the major supporter in fact the patron of this project” and invited the sector to uniting and participating to this project.
In his opening speech, ITKIB President Hikmet Tanrıverdi pointed out that they have started a new era for the sector in Turkey , that ISTANBUL FASHION WEEK(IFD) will be contributing to the Turkish economy while accelerating the fashion sector.
MTD President Bahar Korcan spoke after Tanrıverdi and she stated that; “we have been working voluntarily for the development of this sector for the last 24 years, yet the Turkish fashion sector, which feeds from the cultural riches of this country needs unity”.
The project was resented by fashion designer Arzu Kaprol, and after it passed the approval of the representatives of the sector and State Minister Caglayan with flying colons, ISTANBUL FASHION WEEK(IFD) was initiated.
ISTANBUL FASHION WEEK(IFD) which has been set up to provide flow of information from our country to the world in fashion design and to draw the attention of the leading fashion press and purchasers to Istanbul, will be presented to the public in the days to come via a press conference.

Istanbul is getting ready for a fashion fiesta to be enjoyed by the whole city with ISTANBUL FASHION WEEK(IFD), where Turkish fashion designers and ready-to-wear brands will be gathered under one roof for the first time.
Istanbul Fashion Days, a first in Turkey, with the cooperation of ITKIB and Fashion Designers Association (MTD) has been introduced to the press in a press conference.
In his opening speech, Chairman of the Istanbul Ready-to-Wear and Apparel Exporters Association (IHKIB) Hikmet Tanrıverdi pointed out that they have started a new era for the sector in Turkey, and that ISTANBUL FASHION WEEK(IFD) will be contributing to the Turkish economy while accelerating the fashion sector.
Fashion Designers Association (MTD) President Bahar Korçan spoke after Tanrıverdi and she stated that; “we have been working voluntarily for the development of this sector for the last 24 years yet the Turkish fashion sector, which feeds from the cultural riches of this country, needs unity”.
ISTANBUL FASHION DAYS (IFD) will be taking place at the Taşkışla Campus of Istanbul Technical University (ITÜ) between the dates 26-29 August and there will be three sub events under the main roof of IFD.
While ISTANBUL FASHION LAB, which is a fashion show and boutique fair organization of our leading fashion designers, will be displaying the collections of Turkish designers to the world under the roof of IFD; BRANDIST, which focuses on our ready-to-wear companies, will be the fashion show and fair platform for the brands. ITKIB’s Young Fashion Designers Contest, which presents an important platform to young fashion designers and enables their entry into the sector, will continue under the body of IFD this year with a new name, KOZA.
Turkey will now have a mark in the world fashion calendar with ISTANBUL FASHION WEEK(IFD), which has been set up to provide information from Turkey to the rest of the world on fashion design and to attract the attention of the world’s leading fashion press and buyers to Istanbul.

ISTANBUL FASHION Week uniting fashion in Turkey under a single roof starts with the participation of the State Minister Zafer Çağlayan
Turkey marks its place on the world’s fashion calendar with the commencement of Istanbul Fashion Week (IFD), which unites the major fashion designers and ready to wear brands of our country.
Istanbul Fashion Week (IFD) , organized at the Taskısla Campus of Istanbul Technical University with the cooperation of Istanbul Apparel and Ready-to-Wear Exporters Association, and Fashion Designers Association (MTD) , began on August 27th with a ceremony attended by the leading names of the Turkish textile and fashion sector and Mr. Zafer Çağlayan, the State Minister responsible from Trade.
While Turkish fashion designers present their designs to the world via the fashion shows and boutique fair organizations of the Fashionlab, which is a part of Istanbul Fashion Week (IFD); Brandist, [also a part of Istanbul Fashion Week (IFD) ], becomes the fashion show and fair platform for the ready-to-wear brands.
Representatives of foreign buyer groups, as well as the members of international press came to Istanbul to watch the three daylong event, namely İstanbul Fashion Week (IFD), consisting of 18 fashion shows in total and displaying the summer 2010 collections of Turkey’s leading ready to wear brands and fashion designers.
This year marks the first of Istanbul Fashion Week (IFD) and the event will end on August 29th. from now on, Istanbul Fashion Week (IFD) will be organized semi annually for spring-summer and autumn-winter, just like its international counterparts.

İHKİB President Hikmet Tanrıverdi stated that Istanbul Fashion Days had approximately 500 foreign visitors and that their aim in Istanbul Fashion Week is to turn Istanbul into a fashion center like Paris, Milano, New York.
President of Istanbul Ready to Wear and Apparel Exporters Association (İHKİB) Hikmet Tanrıverdi, noted that approximately 500 people from abroad and 4500 people locally have visited İstanbul Fashioın Week at the Istanbul Technical University on the first day, and added “Our target is to turn Istanbul into a fashion center like Paris, Milano, New York and London.” Tanrıverdi argued that Istanbul Fashion Week would also add to the country’s image adding, “We have been exporting in the textile and ready to wear sector for years. We need to be different from the Far East.” Tanrıverdi continued that a step has been taken to create that difference stating, “Many countries in the world have fashion days. Until now, Turkey was not one of these countries. We started to make Istanbul a fashion center. This is one of the foundation blocks for this target.”
Tanrıverdi pointed out that until now Turkish brands worked individually in many countries, yet they were not able to put these brands together, adding, “Here, we have that chance.” Tanrıverdi continued that Fashion Week would be even bigger next year; “We had some firms that could not make it this time. It was a risk since this event is the first one. It will continue to expand. Our target is for Istanbul to become one of the cities accepted to be fashion centers of the world, like Milan, London, Paris, New York. We will show to the world that now Istanbul too has a fashion week, that fashion is blooming, developing and that it will continue to do so in the future. I believe that we will reach our target.” Tanrıverdi stated that approximately 500 foreigners visited Istanbul Fashion Week.
BUYER GROUPS OF LAFAYETTE FROM PARIS, FASHION CAPITOL FROM LONDON CAME
112 organizations attended the fashion days organized in Istanbul, 43 foreign buyer groups and 69 press organizations. Among the buyer groups there were international groups like Galaries Lafayette from Paris, Bloomingdales from Dubai, Gardorobe from Berlin, Clube Chocolate from Rio, Gattinolli from Beirut, Almont Eje Co. From Tokyo, Fashion Capital from London. Among the press groups there were world famous fashion and TV channels from such places like New York, Berlin, Dubai, Poland, London, Tokyo, Greece, Toronto, Sao Paulo.

The second Istanbul Fashion Week (IFW) which unites fashion in Turkey under a single roof by bringing the leading fashion designers of our country and ready-wear brands together, will be taking place on 3-6 February...
Istanbul Fashion Week ( IFW), which will be realized for the second time with the cooperation of ITKIB and Fashion Designers Association (MTD) has been introduced at a party which was attended by the leading names in the Turkish textile and fashion sector, as well as Mr. Zafer Çağlayan, the State Minister responsible from Foreign Trade.
The first of the fashion days was realized on August 2009 and was called Istanbul Fashion Week, where 25.000 visitors visited the event in three days, thanks to an immense interest by the local and foreign sector followers.
The event will be held a second time in parallel to the World Fashion Weeks calendar and understanding and will be held in SantralIstanbul on 3-6 February under the name “Istanbul Fashion Week”, like its counterparts in the fashion capitals of the world.
İHKİB President of the Board Hikmet Tanrıverdi made the opening speech, stating that they have started a new era in Turkey on behalf of the sector and that they are very happy that ISTANBUL FASHION WEEK (IFW) accelerated the sector, and emphasizing that the impact IFW 2010 will have on the international platform will be much bigger since Istanbul is the 2010 European Capital of Culture.
MTD President Bahar Korçan took the floor after Tanrıverdi and she pointed out that “ IFW , which has been realized due to a necessity for the unity of the Turkish fashion sector, has reinforced designer and industry cooperation” and added that “a major platform has been formed for our brands and designers, for meeting foreign buyer groups.”
On the other hand, Mr. Zafer Çağlayan, State Minister responsible from Foreign Trade said “I AM THE PROTECTOR OF THIS!” and mentioned how proud he was of the success of IFW, which he had been supporting from the beginning and addressed the textile by saying “I am inviting our designers, brands, the whole sector via the press to collaborate.”
ISTANBUL FASHION WEEK (IFW), which has been designed to provide a flow of information to the world on fashion design and to get the attention of the world’s leading fashion press and buyers, will once more unite all the textile and fashion industry.

Istanbul Fashion Week (IFW), which will be held on 03-06 February in Santral Istanbul and the National Lottery Administration (Milli Piyango İdaresi) has signed up for a significant collaboration.
Within the frame of this collaboration, the National Lottery tickets, which will be drawn on 09 February 2010, have been specially designed for Istanbul Fashion Week (IFW). Consequently, the trendiest lottery ticket ever will be on sale as of 30 January 2010.
Committee Head of Istanbul Fashion Week ( IFW) İsmail Kutlu, states that they accept this collaboration that has been entered into with the National Lottery Administration for the publicity of IFW, which carries out information to the world about Turkish fashion as the Administration’s support for Turkish Fashion and Textile and that they are honored by this.
İsmail Kutlu stresses that such creative collaborations for Istanbul Fashion Week (IFW) will continue in the next seasons as well.

The 2nd Istanbul Fashion Week (IFW), organized by İTKİB (Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporters’ Association), will take place in Santralistanbul between February 3rd and 6th.
Prior to the official opening ceremony in Santralistanbul, 220 guests, including foreign press members and buyers who were invited to attend the IFW were hosted by the Minister for Foreign Trade, Zafer Çağlayan, and IHKIB Chairman, Hikmet Tanrıverdi, in a press meeting conducted at the Conrad Hotel.
Hikmet Tanrıverdi, IHKIB Chairman, answered questions asked by the foreign guests, stating ‘’Istanbul Fashion Week has started ahead of the world fashion calendar and providing information flow from Turkey to the world in the fashion area is our priority”.
Tanrıverdi also underlined that, “IFW will be consistently organized twice a year, aiming to carry the Turkish fashion brands and the textile sector to the position they deserve in the international arena”.
Minister Zafer Çağlayan stated that, “Following the interest that Turkey‘s first official fashion week has gathered in August, we decided that the second was to be organized as a four-day fashion organization” and added that “this is a delayed but very significant step”. The minister also pointed out that “their support for IFW would continue as IFW, through the awareness that Turkish fashion and textiles would create throughout the world, provides great support for the promotion of Turkey and therefore for the Turkish economy”.
In the Istanbul Fashion Week (IFW) official opening ceremony in Santralistanbul, that took place after the press meeting, the opening ribbon was cut by the famous Hollywood star Meg Ryan and Minister Zafer Çağlayan.
Meg Ryan, who has gained interest with her warm and humble attitude during the opening, repeated how happy she was to be in Istanbul and also stated that “She was greatly honored to be present in the opening of the Istanbul Fashion Week”.
During the four-day organization, that will create a fashion atmosphere in Istanbul, the Turkish ready-wear brands and fashion designers will exhibit their 2010/11 Fall-Winter collections.
This year’s IFW is expected to be visited by approximately 35,000 fashion followers, as well as a crowded group of foreign press members and buyers.
